$230 · limited run · sold out

The Codex Micro Is $230 and Sold Out. Get the Same Agent Lights for $125.

The Codex Micro is OpenAI's first self-branded hardware — a gorgeous agent-status macro pad that vanished in its first limited drop at $230, with no restock promise and no confirmed shipping outside the US. We build a same-form-factor custom alternative with the identical RGB agent-state lighting for $125: in stock, shipping worldwide, and pre-configured for Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor.

What Is the Codex Micro?

The Codex Micro is a programmable mechanical macro pad — a compact command center for developers — released on 2026-07-15 by OpenAI Supply Co. in collaboration with keyboard maker Work Louder. It is built on the CNC-aluminium Creator Micro 2 chassis and marketed as the companion device for OpenAI's Codex coding agent. The standout feature is its Agent Keys: six translucent keycaps along the top row that change color to mirror your agent's live state — white when idle, blue while thinking, green when a task is done, and red on error — with the acrylic edge glowing during push-to-talk.

Under the hood the Codex Micro packs 13 low-profile mechanical switches (clicky or silent), a 2D joystick, a rotary encoder, capacitive touch layer-switching, six programmable layers, USB-C plus Bluetooth, and a bundle of 32 keycaps (including the "yolo" and "yeet" meme caps). It is configurable through VIA and the Work Louder Input app.

Sold Out? Not Shipping to You? $230 Feels Steep? Locked to Codex Only?

Sold out with no restock

The limited run vanished fast and there is no waitlist or补货 promise. You could refresh the drop page forever — or order a build today.

Not shipping to your country

Official shipping regions were never confirmed and may be US-only. Our alternative ships worldwide.

$230 is a lot for a macro pad

The same Creator Micro 2 chassis sells for $144–$174 bare. You are paying a large premium for the branding.

Locked to the Codex ecosystem

The Agent Keys are tuned for Codex. If you live in Claude Code or Cursor, you want a pad configured for your agent instead.

Each of these gaps is exactly what the comparison tool below is built to close — line them up side by side and configure the build that fits you.

Built for the Way You Actually Ship

The official Codex Micro ships one way. Your $125 build is yours to shape — visualize your exact unit before you ever fill in the form:

Switch type

Clicky for tactile feedback or silent for the open-office and late-night sessions.

Keycap text

Print the shortcuts, agent commands, or in-jokes your team actually uses.

Agent mapping preset

Pre-flashed for Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor — status lights and macros matched to your agent.

Lighting behavior

The same idle / thinking / done / error color language, driven by an open agent-status script.

The hardware is a commodity — the value is the pre-configured agentic workflow integration and the agent-status lighting scripts that make the pad feel alive while your agent works. That is the part you cannot buy off a bare macro pad.

Is the Codex Micro Worth It?

Honestly? If you can get one at $230 and you are all-in on Codex, the official Codex Micro is a lovely, well-built object — the CNC chassis feels premium, the Agent Keys are genuinely delightful, and there is collectible value in owning OpenAI's first hardware. We are not going to pretend it is a bad product.

But "worth it" depends on what you are buying. Most of the $230 is chassis and brand — the underlying Creator Micro 2 is $144–$174 — and the software magic (the agent-status lighting) is a script layer, not silicon. If you want the experience rather than the collectible, if you cannot get one, or if you code in Claude Code or Cursor, paying the premium makes far less sense. That is the exact case our $125 alternative is built for: the same agent-status experience, in stock, without the scarcity tax.

Other Codex Micro Alternatives We Considered

We looked hard at the alternatives before building ours. Each is a fine macro pad — none of them ships pre-configured for AI coding agents with status lighting the way ours does.

  • Elgato Stream Deck MK.2 (~$150)LCD keys and a huge plugin ecosystem, but built for streamers — no mechanical feel and no agent-state lighting language out of the box.
  • Keychron Q0 Max (~$110)A superb, heavy aluminium numpad with QMK/VIA, but you build every agent macro and light script from scratch yourself.
  • DIY QMK build ($20–$80)The cheapest path if you enjoy soldering and flashing firmware — great for tinkerers, a weekend project for everyone else.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I buy the Codex Micro?

The official Codex Micro is sold by OpenAI Supply Co. in partnership with Work Louder as a limited run at $230. There is no pre-order, no waitlist, and no restock promise — once a drop sells out it may not return. If it is unavailable to you, our $125 custom alternative is built to order and ships worldwide.

Is the Codex Micro sold out? Will there be a restock?

The Codex Micro launched on 2026-07-15 as a limited quantity and has repeatedly sold out. OpenAI has not published a restock date or a补货 commitment. Rather than wait, you can reserve a same-form-factor custom macro pad from us today.

How much does the Codex Micro cost?

The official Codex Micro is $230. The Creator Micro 2 chassis it is based on starts around $144. Our pre-configured custom alternative is $125 all-in, with the same agent-status lighting experience.

What is the difference between the Codex Micro and the Creator Micro 2?

The Codex Micro is a co-branded, agent-tuned edition of the Work Louder Creator Micro 2 macro pad. The Creator Micro 2 is the bare hardware — you configure everything yourself and it has no pre-built agent-status lighting. Our alternative gives you that lighting experience pre-configured for about half the Codex Micro price.

Does the custom alternative work with Claude Code and Cursor?

Yes. The official Codex Micro is tuned for the Codex ecosystem. Our $125 build ships with your choice of a Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor agent-mapping preset, so the status lights and macro keys match the AI coding agent you actually use.

Where does the custom alternative ship, and how is it set up?

We ship worldwide and build each unit to order. It arrives pre-flashed with your chosen agent preset, keycap text, and switch type, so setup is plug-in-and-go over USB-C — no firmware toolchain required unless you want to remap layers later with VIA.
